This policy explains what information MicDrop ("we", "us", "the app") collects when you
use the mobile app and the supporting services, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
Account information
Email address, username, display name, and password (stored as a one-way hash).
Optional profile fields you provide: avatar image, bio.
Content you create
Sings you log: song title, artist, optional rating, optional note, optional venue, optional
karaoke platform, optional timestamp.
Likes, comments, follows, wishlist items, and reports you submit.
Subscription information
If you buy a VIP Passport subscription, the purchase is processed by Apple or Google — we
never receive or store your card details.
We store the store's transaction identifier, the product you bought, and the expiry date, so
the app knows your VIP status is active. That is all we keep about a purchase.
Live karaoke nights
Location: if you allow it, the app uses your approximate location only while
the karaoke map is open, to show venues near you and sort them by distance. Your location stays
on your phone and is never sent to us.
Your phone's time zone (for example "America/Phoenix") is sent when you open your night
recaps, so each night is grouped on the right local date.
If you host karaoke (KJ Mode), the weekly nights you add and the times you go live are shown
publicly on the map and on the venue's page.
Vibe tags you pick for a venue are stored with your account. Other people only see the totals,
never who picked what.
A night recap image is saved to your photos only when you tap Save. The "recap is ready"
reminder is scheduled on your phone; you can turn it off in Notification settings.
Joining a live show: when you request a song at a live show or tap
"I'm here", we record that you joined that show and when.
Song requests: when you request a song at a live show, we store the song, the
key and the short note you add, and your place in line, linked to your account. The KJ running
that show sees your display name with the song, key and note. When the KJ marks your song as
sung, it is added to your sing history (public, unless you choose "Keep it private" when you
request).
Ratings and notes: if you rate a performance at a live show, we store your
scores and any note you write, linked to your account. The singer sees the average scores (only
once at least three people have rated) and your note without your name. Leaderboards show
singers' names and crowd scores, but never people with a private profile.
Venue recaps: after a live show, the venue can publish a recap of the night on
its MicDrop page: how many people checked in, how many songs were sung, and the crowd's
top-rated songs. Your name and photo appear in a recap only if you turn on "Feature me in venue
recaps" in Settings (it is off unless you turn it on), and never while your profile is private.
Song titles may appear without your name. You can remove yourself from any recap, and turning
the setting off removes your name from all recaps. Images other people already shared can't be
recalled. People who saved a venue may get a notification when it posts a recap.
First-timers and regulars: a venue page may show how many first-time and
regular singers sang there tonight. This is a total only, never names, and it isn't shown when
fewer than five people sang.
Messages
If you send or receive direct messages, we store the messages, who sent them and when, and
whether they have been read, linked to both accounts. Only the two people in a chat can read it.
A message from someone you don't follow arrives as a request. They can't see whether you've read
it until you accept. You choose who can message you in Settings (everyone, people you follow,
or no one).
If you report a message, we save that message and up to 20 messages before it so our team can
review the report. Our team does not read anyone's chats otherwise.
During a live show you can message that show's KJ. The KJ sees your name and your song request.
Deleting a chat removes it from your inbox only; the other person keeps their copy. Deleting your
account removes your messages, except messages saved with a report, which we keep until 90 days
after the report is resolved.
We store your phone's time zone so message notifications can wait until morning (quiet hours,
midnight to 8 AM; you can turn this off in message settings).
Privacy controls
If you make your profile private, only followers you approve see your sings, venues and
stats. Anyone can still see your name, photo and follower counts.
We store follow requests until you approve or decline them, and the songs and venues you
choose to hide, so future sings of those songs or at those venues stay hidden too.
Automatic information
Daily check-in date used to compute your streak count.
Basic request metadata (IP address, user-agent) recorded transiently in server logs for
security and abuse prevention. Logs are retained for up to 30 days.
2. How we use information
To operate core features: feed, profiles, search, notifications, badges, streaks.
To prevent abuse, spam, and unauthorized access.
To respond to support requests you send us.
3. What we don't do
We do not sell your personal information.
We do not run third-party advertising networks inside the app.
We do not access your device's contacts, photos, microphone, or location without an
explicit in-app permission prompt.
4. Third-party services
iTunes Search API — used to look up song metadata and album artwork. Your
search query is sent to Apple; no account information is shared.
Push notification providers (Apple Push Notification service / Google FCM)
— used to deliver notifications you've opted into.
Maps (Google Maps on Android, Apple Maps on iPhone) — used to draw the
karaoke map. Like any map, the map provider receives the area of the map you are viewing; we
don't share your account information with them.
Hosting — our backend runs on Railway. The database is hosted in the United
States.
5. Data retention & deletion
You can delete your account at any time from the app: Profile → Settings → Delete Account.
Deletion is immediate and irreversible. When you delete your account we permanently remove your
profile, sings, comments, likes, follows, wishlist, streak history, song requests, ratings and notes
you wrote, and your name from any venue recap within 7 days. Aggregated,
non-identifying counters (e.g. total sings across the platform) are retained.
6. Children
MicDrop is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account,
please contact us and we will remove it.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live (EEA, UK, California, etc.), you may have rights to access, correct,
export, or delete your personal data. Most of these can be exercised directly in-app. For anything
else, email the address below and we will respond within 30 days.
8. Changes
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top and, where
appropriate, notify you in-app.
